Major developments like the Northern Metropolis will incorporate high-tech, low-carbon infrastructure. Public and private sectors are also accelerating existing building enhancements to meet decarbonisation goals. The resulting growth in green building careers will lead to various job opportunities such as sustainability consultants, ESG professionals, green building design engineers, energy and carbon auditors, retro-commissioning professionals, etc.

Ir Dr Eddy LAU is the Head of Green Labelling at Hong Kong Green Building Council. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Registered Professional Engineer in both Energy and Building Services Disciplines. He has been managing BEAM Plus – Hong Kong’s green building certification scheme since 2012. Before that, he had worked in the building industry for more than 17 years, with heavy involvement in building equipment upgrades and building A&A works. Besides his work at HKGBC, he is a member of CLP Power HK Ltd’s Eco Building Fund Vetting Committee, and he regularly gives guest lecture to post-graduate students in urban planning on the subject of “Planning Future Cities and Regions”.
