Congratulations to Prof. Charles Chunbao Xu, Chair Professor, and Prof. Jian Wang, Assistant Professor, on receiving the RGC-Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) and RGC-Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG), respectively. The total awarded projects have received funding of over HK$12 million.

From December 27th to 30th, 2024, Prof. Michael LEUNG led a delegation, including PhD students and post-doctoral researchers from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), to meet with the Changzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and several prestigious enterprises. This exchange visit aimed to promote the deep integration and development of our technological innovation resources with Changzhou's industrial strengths through meaningful exchange and collaboration.

Prof. Lin Zhang and his team published a paper titled “Energy-poverty-inequality SDGs: A large-scale household analysis and forecasting in China”, was published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Affordable and clean energy is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7). Researchers at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) discovered that transitioning to clean cooking fuels can significantly promote multiple SDGs, including poverty elimination (SDG 1) and reduced inequality (SDG 10).

On 2 December 2024, a team led by our esteemed Associate Dean (Internationalization and Outreach), Prof. Edwin Tso, and including SEE alumnus Mr. Cheung Tim Yiu, received the Silver Award for the Electricity-free Cooling Technology developed by i2Cool Limited. This technology startup was incubated by City University of Hong Kong's HK Tech 300 and recognized at the Hong Kong Green Innovations Award (HKGIA).

At the recent SEE Colloquium held on 20 November 2024, the esteemed Cr Terence MANG, the Chairperson of the Youth Affairs Committee at the Construction Industry Council, captivated attendees with an inspiring presentation on “Reflections on Zero Carbon Park: Lesson Learned in the Pursuit of Zero Emissions”.

The School of Energy and Environment recently organized a significant colloquium titled “Hong Kong’s Stories in the Journey towards Carbon Neutrality” on 9 October 2024. The speech was delivered by Mr. Wong Kam Sing, GBS, JP, Former Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government.

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is pleased to announce that Professor Kenneth Leung, our esteemed Dean, has been reappointed as the Chairperson of the Lantau Conservation Fund Advisory Committee (LCFAC) for the term from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2026. The LCFAC, established in October 2020, holds a critical role in advising on the administration and operation of the Lantau Conservation Fund (LCF). The committee's responsibilities include vetting applications and monitoring funded projects.
