Four research projects led by scholars at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) received grants worth HK$20.26 million in total from the inaugural Green Tech Fund under the Environmental Protection Department, Hong Kong SAR Government. Three of those awarded projects are led by faculty members of the School of Energy and Environment, Prof. Chak K. Chan, Dean and Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment, Prof. Alex Jen, Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science and Dr. Yun Hau Ng, Associate Professor respectively.

Dr. Carol Lin, Associate Professor, has been awarded HK$ 2,682,810 by the Research Grants Council (RGC) via European Union (EU)-Hong Kong Research and Innovation Cooperation Co-funding Mechanism.

Congratulations to Dr. Chunhua Liu, Associate Professor, on receiving the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2021/22 with his research proposal titled “Development of Novel Integrated Wireless Motor Drives for Cordless Joints of Robotics”. The awarded project received funding of HK$5,509,700.

Prof. Angus Yip, Professor of the School of Energy and Environment, is recently elected as a member of Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (YASHK) for 2022. The Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (YASHK) was established in 2018 as a chapter of The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (ASHK), the objective of YASHK is to gather young scientists to jointly promote the development of science and technology with the ASHK.

Dr. Theodora Nah, Dr. Jin Shang, Dr. Chunhua Liu, Dr. Yun Hau Ng, and Prof. Chak K. Chan, of the School of Energy and Environment at CityU have received over HKD$5M funding from the Green Tech Fund (GTF). This 3-year research project, entitled “Portable and low-cost sensors for the ambient air monitoring of BTEX and other volatile organic compounds”, will develop sensors to speciate atmospheric volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

CityU organized the “Teachers’ Development Day@CityU” on 10 December 2021 to contribute to the nurturing of talented students. On this important occasion, SEE hosted a talk titled “Nurturing Energy and Environmental Engineers of Next Generation” to introduce the School, career prospects of graduates and academic programmes to the participating secondary school teachers.

Under the supervision from Dr. Denis Yu, a cross-disciplinary team comprising undergraduates from Department of Economics and Finance, and Department of Mechanical Engineering, recently won the HK Tech 300 seed fund for the project regarding development of low-cost rechargeable Zn-MnO2 batteries.
