CityU Named Professorship Scheme
Under the Named Chair Professorship Scheme of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), two faculty members of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) have been named with endowed professors. They are Professor Wang Wenxiong, TUYF Chair Professorship in Oceanography, and Professor Michael Leung Kwok-hi, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Professorship in Energy and Environment.

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE), in collaboration with the CFA Institute, hosted an Alumni Event titled “Careers in ESG for Engineers” on 6 October 2022 to introduce the career opportunity in ESG and sustainability to SEE alumni.

Miss Yuwei Du, Dr. Sai Liu and Dr. Aiqiang Pan in Dr. Edwin Tso's research group were awarded as the Idea-Stage Startup Winner in Climate Action Recognition Scheme 2021-22. The Award Ceremony organized by Hong Kong SDG Hub was held on 24 September 2022.

Dr. Jason Lam’s paper titled “The Structural Phase Effect of MoS2 in Controlling the Reaction Selectivity between Electrocatalytic Hydrogenation and Dimerization of Furfural” has been published in ACS Catalysis (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1021/acscatal.2c02137) and featured as the front cover article in Issue 18, Volume 12.

Out of 208 projects from 23 countries and regions, Dr. Denis Yu’s innovation on a new kind of battery, a dual-ion battery (DIB), has earned him a top 20 spot in the Tera-Award Smart Energy Innovation Competition, a smart energy innovation competition jointly organised by The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) under the theme of “exploring zero-carbon innovations for the future”.

Dr. Sam HSU received about HK$2.5M funding together with over HK$3M Research Talent Hub (RTH) from the Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Funding Scheme (MHKJFS) launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC). MHKJFS aims to support research and development (R&D) collaboration among universities, research institutes, and technology enterprises in Hong Kong and the Mainland. This two-year project will focus on the development of large-area, high-performing, and stable perovskite light-emitting didoes.

The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 31 August 2022 to jointly promote innovation and technology (I&T) and nurture InnoTalent of the future.

In collaboration with Hong Kong Green Building Council and Hang Lung Properties, SEE Student Chapter organized a visiting tour to Amoy Plaza and Gala Place on 16 August 2022. The visit aims to broaden students' understanding of retro-commissioning (RCx) and pressure-independent control valve (PICV) systems.
