A groundbreaking study on thermochromic smart windows titled “Mask-Inspired Moisture-Transmitting and Durable Thermochromic Perovskite Smart Windows” has recently been published in Nature Communications. This research addresses the two main challenges hindering the development of thermochromic perovskite smart windows, namely, poor durability and optical blurriness. Prof.
Prof. Chunhua Liu and Dr. Kuo Feng have been awarded two prestigious awards by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for their groundbreaking research. The paper, titled “Distributed Hierarchical Control for Fast Frequency Restoration in VSG-Controlled Islanded Microgrids”, published in the IEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society (OJIES), has earned them the 2023 IEEE Outstanding Paper Award for the IEEE OJIES.
Congratulations to Mr. Yong Chen, PhD student of Prof. Chunhua Liu, Professor, School of Energy and Environment, for receiving the award of best presenter for the paper titled “Predictive Control of Five-leg Inverter Driving Dual PMSMs for Overcurrent Suppression” in 2023 IEEE 6th Student Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (IEEE SCEMS 2023).
Prof. Xue Wang was awarded the IAAM Scientist Medal from the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) in recognition for her contribution to “Green Energy”. During the past 57th Assembly of Advanced Materials Congress (09 – 12 November 2023) held in Orlando, USA, she was also invited to deliver a lecture entitled “Efficient e-fuel electrosynthesis from CO2” at the conference.
Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, an undergraduate student at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), Miss Lau Cheuk Ying, Kathy, has received a seed fund of HK$50,000 from the “Green Energy Dreams Come True” competition organized by HK Electric.
Prof. Sai Kishore RAVI has received the Young Scientist Award in the Global Conference for Decarbonization of Energy and Materials (GCDEM 2023) in Singapore, held from 27 to 30 December 2023. Prof. RAVI was selected by the conference review panel for this award in recognition of his contributions in the domain of “energy harvesting and catalysis”.
Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin TSO, two talented alumni of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have been awarded for their distinguished achievement. Mr. Choi Man Ho and Mr. Cheung Tim Yiu have won the Gold Award with the Electricity-free Cooling Technology of i2Cool Limited, a technology startup incubated by CityU HK Tech 300, at the 3rd Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong (AEII) by the Hong Kong Exporters’ Association (HKEA).
Prof. Alicia AN (PI), along with Prof. Edwin TSO (Co-I) and Dr. Muhammad Usman FARID (Co-I), has been granted a Green Tech Fund by the Environment and Ecology Bureau, HKSAR Government. Their project, titled “Thermally-integrated water desalination — electrolysis system for clean hydrogen generation”, has received funding of HK$4.14 million for a duration of two years. Their project aims to develop a highly efficient, thermally integrated membrane distillation (MD) — anion exchange electrolysis (AEMEL) system.
The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) is pleased to announce that Crystal Climate Charity Foundation has made a generous donation for establishing the “Crystal Climate Charity Foundation Scholarships” (晶苑氣候慈善基金獎學金) to recognize academically outstanding undergraduate students majoring in Energy Science and Engineering or Environmental Science and Engineering of the School from the 2023/24 academic year.
Prof. Wei Wu, Associate Professor of the School of Energy and Environment, is recently elected as the 3rd Round HVAC Outstanding Young Scholar in 2023 by HVAC Journal Publisher. It is a National Award for outstanding young scholar in HVAC field once every three years. This is the first time it given to a scholar in Hong Kong.
