City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) continues to demonstrate its global research excellence, maintaining its position as first in Hong Kong for the ninth consecutive year in the ratio of Highly Cited Researchers to total faculty and research staff. In the prestigious "Highly Cited Researchers 2024" list released by Clarivate, 32 CityUHK scholars were recognized for their exceptional academic influence. Prof. Lin Zhang recently featured on the China Global Television Network (CGTN) podcast series Climate Watch for a thought-provoking discussion on energy transition and sustainable development. The episode, titled “Is Your Cooking Stove a Climate Problem?”, explored the connection between individual lifestyles and sustainability goals.

On 15 March 2025, more than 40 members of the SEE community—including faculty members, staff, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students—led by our Dean, Prof. Kenneth Leung, embarked on an enriching visit to City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) and the Ancient Nanshe Village. The trip provided valuable insights into CityUHK (Dongguan)’s dynamic learning environment and state-of-the-art research facilities, which foster innovation and collaboration.

Under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Tso, Dr. Wang Wenqi, a postdoctoral researcher from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), has been honored with the Best Research Paper Award at the 10th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference (TEFC2025), organized by the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE).

Assistant Professor Xi Chen from the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), recently co-authored a research article published in Nature Communications titled “Life cycle comparison of industrial-scale lithium-ion battery recycling and mining supply chains.” Professor Chen served as both a co-corresponding author and co-first author in collaboration with Professor William A. Tarpeh from Stanford University.

Our Dean, Professor Kenneth Leung, JP, along with Professor Fatwa Abdi, Professor Theodora Nah, and Professor Edwin Tso, visited three top universities in Indonesia from 18 to 22 February 2025. The purpose of the visit was to recruit top students for our PhD programme through the Diversity/Fast Track Programme of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
