Out of 208 projects from 23 countries and regions, Dr. Denis Yu’s innovation on a new kind of battery, a dual-ion battery (DIB), has earned him a top 20 spot in the Tera-Award Smart Energy Innovation Competition, a smart energy innovation competition jointly organised by The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) under the theme of “exploring zero-carbon innovations for the future”.

Dr. Sam HSU received about HK$2.5M funding together with over HK$3M Research Talent Hub (RTH) from the Mainland-Hong Kong Joint Funding Scheme (MHKJFS) launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC). MHKJFS aims to support research and development (R&D) collaboration among universities, research institutes, and technology enterprises in Hong Kong and the Mainland. This two-year project will focus on the development of large-area, high-performing, and stable perovskite light-emitting didoes.

Fifteen academic subjects at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have been ranked in the top 50 in the world, according to ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2022. Among those listed subjects, Energy Science & Engineering ranked 1st in Hong Kong and 23rd in the world. It demonstrates SEE and University’s excellence and strengths.

We are proud that Dr. Alicia AN and Dr. Chunhua LIU of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) have been awarded the “RGC Research Fellow” in the Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) by RGC in 2022/23!

The Research Grants Council (RGC) has just announced the results of the GRF exercises for 2022/23. In this latest competition, SEE faculty members have secured 8 awards, with a total funding exceeds HK$7 million.  SEE continues to strive in research excellence towards energy and environmental areas.

Dr. Henry He, Assistant Professor, recently received over HK$1.1M funding from the Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund (MEEF). This 2-year project, titled “Tracing a Novel Group of E-Waste Contaminants - Liquid Crystal Monomers - in the Chinese White Dolphins” will determine the occurrences and distributions of a novel class of emerging organic contaminants related to e-waste, namely liquid crystal monomers (LCMs), in Chinese White Dolphins (CWDs) living in the western Hong Kong and Pearl River Estuary waters.
