Dr. Henry He, Assistant Professor of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), recently received HK$ 976,000 funding from the Marine Conservation Enhancement Fund (MCEF). This two-year project, titled “Migration of a Novel Class of Organic Light-Emitting Materials (OLEMs) from E-waste to Finless Porpoises”, will trace the migration of a variety of organic light-emitting materials, from electronic devices/waste to Finless Porpoises, also known as “江豚” living in Hong Kong and Pearl River Estuary (PRE) waters.

At the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (IEIG), Dr. Wei Wu and his PhD students (Mr. Fuxiang Li and Mr. Haosheng Lin) of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) won two gold medals with their inventions: “Energy-free PV Cooler and Water Harvester” and “Power-to-water Battery.” These inventions are promising for renewable energy harvesting, storage, and conversion towards carbon neutrality. Both inventions have been applied for United States patents.

We are pleased to announce that Professor YUAN Zhiguo has reported his duty at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) as Chair Professor of Urban Water Management from 2 May 2023. Professor Yuan received his PhD degree from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China. He served as Professor and Director of the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology at The University of Queensland until July 2022.

On 21 April 2023, the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) organized its first School Annual Lunch Gathering since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Just in time, Professor Chak K. CHAN, our former School Dean and Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment, will leave CityU at the end of April to join King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.  The SEE Annual Lunch Gathering becomes a good occasion for SEE members and CityU friends to meet and say farewell to Professor Chak Chan.

Under the supervision of Professor Michael Leung, Miss Felice Adeline Yau, a recent graduate of BEng Environmental Science and Engineering (EVE) won the Championship in the 2021-2022 Best Final-Year Environmental Project (Individual Project) Competition, organized by the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) with her final-year project titled “Hydrogen Production of Pt-TiO2 Nanotubes from Butyric Acid Photoreforming”.
