The beach cleaning event at Shek O Beach was successfully held on 14 April 2024. SEE Student Chapter partnered with the Hong Kong Cleanup and gathered a group of participants from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) to participate in this meaningful event. The team from SEE including Prof. Edwin TSO, Associate Professor and the advisor of SEE Student Chapter; SEE staff, alumni, postgraduate and undergraduate students, with over 40 people joining this event.

The event brought together senior industrial executives, faculty members, and undergraduate students to foster discussion and exchange ideas on shaping the education of future energy, environment, and sustainability professionals.

These engaging sessions aimed to provide undergraduate students with valuable insights into various professional paths and offer guidance for their future careers.
Prof. Carol Lin recently awarded the MilliporeSigma Green Chemistry Education Challenge Awards (US$5,000) by Beyond Benign, Inc. This is a non-profit organization co-founded in 2007 by Dr. John Warner and Dr. Amy Cannon, co-located with the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry in Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA.
Prof. Xuan Wang’s PhD student Xi LIU received the JESE excellent poster presentation award in the 12th National Conference on Environmental Chemistry, where he presented his PhD study on “Global impact of chlorine chemistry on secondary organic aerosols”.
The conference was held during 17-21 November 2023 in Wuhan, which had more than 10,000 attendances. The award is one of the 12 selected from over 1,200 poster presentations.
Professor Kim and his colleagues published a paper on the side effects of geoengineering methods in Communications Earth & Environment. Ultimately, we must transition to a decarbonized society for a sustainable world, but it will require a lot of social cost and effort.
We are delighted to share the exciting news that Prof. Kenneth Leung, the Dean of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), and his group have been honored with the first joint winner in the category “Critical Review” in the 2022 Environmental Science and Technology Best Paper Award from the American Chemical Society.
We are delighted to have Mr. Jasper Chan, Assistant General Manager – ESG, Towngas, share his insights on the Risks and Opportunities: Transition for Energy Companies in the Low Carbon Era at the SEE Colloquium on 26 March 2024. In the Colloquium, Jasper talked about the transition to low carbon economy, alongside Climate Change, presents diversified risks and opportunities for different industries, and is especially vital for the energy sector.
The Hong Kong Economic Times published an alumni interview article featuring Dr. Martin Zhu, a PhD Alumnus of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at CityU. Dr. Zhu is currently the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of i2Cool Limited. On the 11th and 13th of March, a group of undergraduate students taking the Gateway Education course GE1308, led by Prof. Sai Kishore RAVI, visited the solar farm and wastewater treatment facilities at Siu Ho Wan, managed by Drainage Services Department (DSD). This visit gave them a close look at how renewable energy is integrated into Hong Kong’s sewage treatment facilities, in line with the city’s climate action goals.
