We are delighted to unveil CityUHK's noteworthy inventions and contributions to the implementation of eco-shorelines in Hong Kong, spearheaded by our esteemed School Dean, Prof. Kenneth Leung, who is also the Director of State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at CityUHK.

On 30 April 2024, Hong Kong Metropolitan University hosted a thought-provoking event titled “Talk of the Metropolis”. The event featured a captivating presentation by Professor Kenneth Leung, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at City University of Hong Kong. Professor Leung's talk centered around his groundbreaking eco-engineering projects aimed at constructing eco-shorelines.

Congratulations to Professor Steven Wang, Associate Vice-President (Resources Planning) and Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and School of Energy and Environment on winning the Research Project of the Year: STEM at Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2024, the only university in Hong Kong to win this prestigious award this year.

Professor Jason Chun-Ho LAM, from the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong, was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) in 2023/24 for his exceptional commitment to inspire students to have a passion for learning through innovative teaching methods. His approach focused on igniting curiosity through virtual reality (VR) technology, particularly in the context of climate change education.

Researchers from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) achieved tremendous accolades at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (IEIG) by winning a total of 36 awards, including 2 Special Prizes, 8 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 10 Gold Medals, 11 Silver Medals and 5 Bronze Medals. Among the CityUHK’s winning teams, 14 of them are start-ups and teams incubated by HK Tech 300.

The beach cleaning event at Shek O Beach was successfully held on 14 April 2024. SEE Student Chapter partnered with the Hong Kong Cleanup and gathered a group of participants from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) to participate in this meaningful event. The team from SEE including Prof. Edwin TSO, Associate Professor and the advisor of SEE Student Chapter; SEE staff, alumni, postgraduate and undergraduate students, with over 40 people joining this event.

The event brought together senior industrial executives, faculty members, and undergraduate students to foster discussion and exchange ideas on shaping the education of future energy, environment, and sustainability professionals.

Prof. Carol Lin recently awarded the MilliporeSigma Green Chemistry Education Challenge Awards (US$5,000) by Beyond Benign, Inc.  This is a non-profit organization co-founded in 2007 by Dr. John Warner and Dr. Amy Cannon, co-located with the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry in Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA.
