Visits to organic farm

The SEE Alumni Association organised two visits to an organic farm ran by Towngas in September 2021. Led by Dr. Denis Yu and Dr. Henry He, 40 MSc students and alumni joined the visits. The groups learnt new approaches and technologies regarding organic farming.

During the visits, Towngas volunteers, including a farming specialist, introduced sustainable farming to the participants. The participants learnt about reusing organic waste such as coffee waste, soya milk residual, weeds and animal droppings, as fertilizer. It was also noted that a hydroponics system was supported by solar panel so that there would be zero energy input. The participants were divided into groups to harvest beans, remove weeds from the fields, and put young plants into the hydroponics setup.
