The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) made a significant impact at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS 2026), held from 2 to 7 August 2026, at the Fukuoka International Congress Centre in Japan. Bringing together leading scientists and researchers from across the Asia-Oceania region and beyond, the conference provided a premier platform for advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration in the geosciences.

A major highlight of the event was the Axford Medal Award Presentation Ceremony, which honoured Prof. Benjamin Horton, Dean of SEE and Chair Professor of Earth Science, with the Society's highest distinction. As the first scholar from Hong Kong to receive the prestigious award, Prof. Horton was recognised for his outstanding contributions to Earth and environmental sciences and his international leadership in sea-level research. He also delivered the Axford Medal Lecture, entitled "Sea Level as Earth’s Integrator: Ice Sheets, Earthquakes, Ecosystems, and the Future of Coastal Risk" sharing transformative insights into the interconnected processes shaping coastal environments and climate resilience.

In addition to celebrating this remarkable achievement, SEE faculty members and researchers played an active role throughout the conference, contributing to the global scientific dialogue through session convening, oral presentations, and poster presentations across a wide range of topics, including atmospheric science, climate risk, oceanography, and sustainable energy systems. Their contributions showcased SEE's research excellence and commitment to addressing pressing environmental and sustainability challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

The strong participation of the SEE delegation at AOGS 2026 reflects the School's growing international profile and continued dedication to advancing impactful research, fostering global partnerships, and developing science-based solutions to support a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
