Inspiring the Next Generation of Researchers: SEE Welcomes 2026 PhD and MPhil Students
The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) warmly welcomed its new cohort of PhD and MPhil students at the Research Degree Programme Orientation on 3 September 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting journey of academic excellence, innovation, and scientific discovery.
The orientation commenced with welcoming remarks by Dean Prof. Benjamin Horton, followed by insightful presentations from Prof. Patrick Lee, Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), and Prof. Jin Shang. The speakers introduced the School’s research strengths, the structure and requirements of the Research Degree Programme, and the wide range of academic and student support services available to postgraduate researchers. The session provided valuable guidance on academic expectations while showcasing SEE’s dynamic, collaborative, and supportive research environment.
As part of SEE’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the postgraduate student experience and fostering a strong sense of community, this year’s orientation featured a dedicated tea reception and networking session. The gathering offered an excellent opportunity for new students to interact with faculty members, professional staff, and fellow research students in a relaxed setting. These informal exchanges encouraged meaningful connections, facilitated the sharing of research interests and experiences, and helped cultivate an inclusive and interdisciplinary research culture from the outset.
The event also provided a platform for incoming students to begin building their professional networks and gain first-hand insights into the vibrant research ecosystem at SEE. Through conversations with faculty members and senior research students, participants were able to learn more about ongoing research initiatives, collaborative opportunities, and life as a postgraduate researcher at CityUHK.
