Dr. Jason Lam, Assistant Professor, was interviewed by The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) to share his view on harvesting renewable chemicals from wood waste in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong produces 120 tonnes of lignin a day from discarded wood. Noting the amount of wood discarded in Hong Kong, Dr. Jason Lam's research group focuses on turning "wastes-to-goods". One of his projects focuses on converting lignin, a key component of wood, into products such as plastics and flavourants that are normally derived from crude oil.
