As a signature event of the College of Science, the second Science Summer Camp was successfully delivered online on 14 & 15 July 2020. Instead of a 5-day programme held on campus, the College has transformed the Science Summer Camp into virtual delivery due to the global outbreak of COVID-19. This has allowed our 40 talented participants who studied in Mainland China, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, the United States, and Hong Kong to join the event while staying at home safely.

The Science Summer Camp is designed for outstanding prospective PhD candidates who plan to embark on PhD studies in science and related disciplines. During the two half-day sessions, an opening session, departmental research seminars, information talks, and admission interviews have been arranged for the participants to find out about the research degree opportunities at CityU.

At the opening session, Professor Raymond Chan, Dean of the College of Science, highlighted CityU’s international spirit in his welcome remarks. Not only are our professors culturally diversified with close connections with collaborators worldwide, but CityU also has a truly international student body.  These global connections are undoubtedly helpful for a PhD student’s future career.

In the information talks, Professor Robert Li, Associate Dean of Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, and Professor Zhang Ruiqin, Associate Dean (Research) of the College, shared with the participants the exciting opportunities and support that CityU offers to our PhD students and what makes CityU an ideal destination for students with an aspiration to embark on their PhD study.

The Science Summer Camp will invite applications for next year in early 2021. Interested students are welcome to visit our website for more information nearer the time.
