Course Aims

This course aims to expose research degree students to oral presentations of scholarly work by way of participating in seminars, guest lectures and conferences. It also provides students with the opportunity to present their own research so that they can benefit from the presentation techniques that they have learned from others.

Assessment (Indicative only, please check the detailed course information)

Continuous Assessment: 100%

Remark:

Students should note the following when preparing the report:

• Students should focus on one to two seminars and explain how these seminars have helped them in their thesis writing.

•€ The report is not intended to be a condensed version of the proposed thesis.

• Students have the option to write about how research should be conducted based on the knowledge and insights they have gained from seminars attended, potentially linking them to the original research proposal. Alternatively, students may choose to explore an extended topic related to their original research proposal, drawing inspiration from seminar insights or ideas that relate to their thesis topic. In this case, it is advisable to integrate the knowledge acquired into their current research endeavors. Ultimately, the report should not merely summarize the seminars attended; rather, it should demonstrate students' learning and application of this knowledge in a critical and analytical manner.

• While some content from the report may be utilized in PIA8617, it is essential that the work submitted is original and not simply copied or pasted from previous work.
