The Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice (OHRP), we are pleased to invite you to our first webinar of 2026 titled "Integrating Veterinary Expertise into the WHO Pandemic Agreement to Reduce Pathogen Transmission at the Human-Animal Interface." This event will take place on March 17th at 4:00 PM (HKT, GMT+8). The WHO Pandemic Agreement is a new, legally binding global framework designed to strengthen countries' prevention, preparedness, and response to future pandemics by explicitly incorporating a One Health approach. Its implementation requires a transdisciplinary, cross-sectoral strategy that addresses the socio-ecological drivers of viral inter-species transmission at the human-animal-environment interface. This includes strategic actions such as surveillance and early detection of high-risk zoonotic pathogens. This webinar aims to provide a platform for veterinarians and colleagues from related disciplines to discuss the critical role of cross-disciplinary collaboration in reducing the risk of future pandemic crises while also enhancing food security, animal welfare, and human well-being. The event will be held via Zoom and will feature two distinguished speakers: Prof. Dirk U. Pfeiffer: Adjunct Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, City University of Hong Kong. He is also Professor Emeritus at the Royal Veterinary College (UK) and a former director of the OHRP. Dr. Gyanendra Gongal: Adjunct Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, City University of Hong Kong. Dr. Gongal is also a Senior Public Health Officer at the World Health Organization’s regional office for South-East Asia.
