Co-developed with Alibaba Cloud Academy, this course equips students with the practical skills and critical perspective required to harness Generative AI (GenAI) responsibly. Through hands-on labs with large language and image models (e.g., Tongyi Qianwen, Wanxiang), students learn the technical foundations of transformers, diffusion models, and prompt-engineering. Parallel lectures and case studies probe GenAI’s economic value and its ethical, legal, and environmental challenges—including bias, privacy, carbon footprint, and intellectual-property disputes. The course culminates in a team project with presentation in which learners design, deploy, and defend a GenAI application. Notably, this course does not require prior technical knowledge on AI and is designed for students from all backgrounds looking to learn about and use GenAI.
