We can find Robots in many different places around us from the outer space walker, bomb disposal robot, diving rescue robot, house-keeping robot, to dancing robot in the theatre. This course introduces robot, a non-human electronic device, from different perspectives, for example how do we construct and interact with a robot, what is the art behind a robot, how does it receive and react, what is the social and ethical implication between man and manmade, in an elementary level treatment. The students who enroll this course will be able to design their first creative and imaginable robot using the LEGO MINDSTORM tool, and participate in the in-class discussions. Moreover, the basic engineering conceptual knowledge, the practical robot design tools, the ethical issues about using robot will be all covered. The students will be assessed by assignments, quizzes, and project presentation to demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge.
