By fostering an explorative journey for students, the course aims at helping them to “make a difference” in life by “doing well and doing good”. In the past two decades, the ideas of “social entrepreneurship” and “social enterprise” have become increasingly popular in Hong Kong and other parts of the world. A social enterprise, simply put, is a social business. It pursues a socially beneficial end through means that resemble a sustainable business. By means of lectures, case studies, group discussions and visits to local renowned social enterprises, students would experience the journey of innovative creations in responding to social needs, and be equipped with an inter-disciplinary knowledge, an innovative mind-set and business skills to serve the needy in society.
