ABSTRACT
In this talk I will explain the importance of gauge (local) symmetries in physics and other areas. Imposing local symmetries in the past, brought the discovery of the bosons Z and W, which unify the electromagnetic and the weak interaction. Additionally, imposing gauge symmetries over the spacetime, brings out gravity naturally. From this perspective, gravity formulated as a gauge theory, brings out naturally the equivalence principle as well as the concept of spacetime. We analyze these aspects in deep detail and we then extend the notions of gauge symmetries to other research areas, showing then the local equivalence of equations which were thought to be different originally.
BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Arraut got his PhD in physics from Osaka University in Japan in 2014. Subsequently he got some Post-Doctoral positions as a CAS fellow in Beijing and as a JSPS fellow in Japan, before landing in Hong Kong as a researcher and subsequently Macau as an Assistant Professor at the University of Saint Joseph. His research projects include topics in Gravity and Cosmology, High-Energy Physics, Condensed matter and some analogies between physical systems and financial systems.
