The project “Immersive Quantum State Measurement System Using VR and Bloch Sphere Visualization”, developed by Prof. Wang Xin Sunny and his team, has been awarded the Bronze Medal at the 5th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong (AEII) 2025. This recognition highlights CityUHK’s growing leadership in combining frontier quantum science with cutting-edge educational technologies.
The award-winning system introduces a fully immersive virtual-reality environment that allows learners to explore quantum states through real-time visualization on the Bloch sphere. Users can directly observe superposition, state evolution, measurement collapse, and entanglement in a way that transforms abstract mathematical concepts into intuitive experiences. By enabling hands-on manipulation of qubits inside VR, the system bridges the gap between theoretical quantum mechanics and experiential learning, making previously inaccessible phenomena visible, tangible, and engaging.
The VR quantum platform has already been successfully implemented in university teaching, secondary-school STEM programs, and public science-outreach activities. Its deployment across diverse learning environments demonstrates strong pedagogical impact, significantly enhancing conceptual understanding and stimulating student interest in quantum physics. The invention also represents a promising direction for the development of next-generation teaching tools that integrate scientific visualization with human-centered interaction on devices such as Apple Vision Pro.
The Bronze Medal at AEII 2025 marks an important step for CityUHK’s efforts to advance innovative science education in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. By reimagining how quantum physics can be taught and experienced, the project contributes both to the popularization of quantum science and to the cultivation of future talent in quantum technology.
