Prof. Sunny Xin Wang, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics (PHY) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), has been elected to the Council of the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS) for the 2026–2028 term. The election took place during the AAPPS Council and Ordinary General Meetings held on 19 October 2025 in Haikou, Hainan, China.
Prof. Wang’s election recognizes his active contributions to international collaboration in quantum physics and science education, as well as his leadership in advancing CityUHK’s visibility within the Asia–Pacific scientific community. As a Council member, he will represent Hong Kong’s physics community in promoting research excellence, regional cooperation, and public engagement in physics across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
The meetings were also attended by Prof. Wei Bao and Prof. Ruiqin Zhang, both are Chair Professors of Physics in PHY. Prof Bao, as the President of the Physical Society of Hong Kong (PSHK), together with other presidents of member societies in Asia Pacific Region, voted to select the new AAPPS Council. He briefed the Board and Council on activities of PSHK and extended invitation for further collaboration with member societies. Prof. Zhang, as a current AAPPS Council member, delivered a presentation on the AAPPS Bulletin and its recent developments.
Founded in 1989, AAPPS serves as a unifying platform for national and regional physical societies across the Asia–Pacific region. Its mission is to promote the advancement of knowledge in physics in the region, including research, application and teaching, especially through international collaboration.
