On 28 June, CSCI students and staff were invited to participate in an Eco Boat Tour, organised by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK). This event was part of AAHK’s celebration of the designation of the North Lantau Marine Park and the commissioning of the Three-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport in November 2024.
The tour offered our students and staff a valuable opportunity to explore the marine environment surrounding Hong Kong International Airport and to learn about the conservation measures implemented to safeguard biodiversity and sustain marine habitats. Throughout the tour, participants engaged in a series of eco-talks led by experts on topics covering the ecology of cetaceans in Hong Kong and AAHK’s Marine Ecology and Fisheries Enhancement Strategy and Initiatives.
Blessed with excellent weather, participants enjoyed a smooth and scenic journey through Hong Kong’s Western Waters. The participants were very lucky to witness the rarely seen Chinese white dolphins in their natural habitat, which was considered a highlight of the tour.
The College of Science extends sincere gratitude to AAHK for the kind invitation and for facilitating such a meaningful and educational experience for our students and staff.
