Changing a career from one field to another often requires much time, effort, and courage.
Organized by the Talent and Education Development Office (TED), the HK TECH Tiger’s talk on 12 May 2022 featured Dr. Elly Chow, a graduate from the former Department of Biology and Chemistry, who shared with students how she had successfully transformed her professional life from a Biologist to a Patent Attorney.
In the talk, Dr. Chow introduced the world of Intellectual Property (IP) and highlighted the importance of networking and making connections in the community. She encouraged students to “Make Each Day Count”, maintain positive attitudes to life, and keep venturing into the unknown to discover new knowledge in order to grasp opportunities and make the best out of what we do.
Dr. Chow received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the former Department of Biology and Chemistry at CityU, and received her Ph.D. in biology at California Institute of Technology. Her experience as an inventor propelled her to explore the intellectual property sector and eventually become a patent attorney.
