Kick-start Teaching with Canvas & Turnitin

This face-to-face workshop provides a hands-on opportunity to try different tools within the Canvas learning management system (LMS). Participants will be able to perform the following tasks after attending the workshop.

  • Describe the CityU digital learning ecosystem
  • Conduct teaching & learning activities in Canvas courses
  • Collect student assignments with Turnitin plagiarism check
  • Run live classes remotely on Zoom
  • Create lecture recordings using Panopto

Using Canvas for Online Assessment & Grading

This workshop covers the applications of Canvas for assessment purposes, including tests and examinations. Besides the technical procedures, the implication of computerizing exams will be discussed. Participants will be able to perform the following tasks after attending the workshop.

  • Describe the pros and cons of online assessments
  • Prevent plagiarism with Turnitin LTI (Canvas Assignments with external tool)
  • Create Canvas Quizzes for computerized tests and exams
  • Operate Gradebook for marking and grades calculations
  • Design and conduct online assessment tasks according to your needs

Self-Access Canvas Workshop for Educators (2023/24)

This self-access online workshop is an alternative to face-to-face training with flexibility. The course is divided into four modules, and you can work at your own pace. The quiz at the end of each module helps to gauge your learning.
Participants will be able to perform the following tasks after completing each module.

  • Module 1: Conducting basic teaching and learning activities on Canvas
  • Module 2: Customizing personal settings in Canvas
  • Module 3: Preventing plagiarism with Turnitin
  • Module 4: Conduct advance learning activities and assessments on Canvas

Target participants: All CityU staff
Study hours: 3 hours
Course date: Offered online throughout the year. Participants can enroll through AIMS
