前言
Foreword

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) strives to promote art and culture and nurture the next generation of artistic talents. The Secondary School Distinguished Artwork Exhibition (the Exhibition) organised by the Cultural and Sports Committee of CityU not only establishes a platform for showcasing the talent of young artists and fostering the cultural exchange among the participating schools and the CityU community, but also exemplifies CityU's endeavours and achievements in the development of 'Six Arts'.

Receiving enthusiastic support from the schools and teachers, the Exhibition had collected over 440 artworks from 88 secondary schools. Our adjudicators selected 66 distinguished artworks to be displayed on an online gallery, which allows everyone to appreciate the artworks at home.

The Exhibition encourages students to show their care about the neighbourhood and our society by expressing their thoughts in three specific themes: 'Hong Kong Scenery', 'Elderly and Home' and 'Firework'. Students depict and capture the unique city scenery by a piece of paper and a paintbrush: the street corners in the past and present, local markets and stores, traditional customs, and grassroots' daily life, etc. The artworks exhibit the students' distinctive drawing styles and thorough observation on the livelihood which are most heartwarming.

Even though we encountered volatile pandemic situation while the Exhibition was in full swing, we received staunch support from all teachers and students. I would like to express my gratitude to all teachers who support the students' artistic creation and actively nominate artworks under the class suspension. Meanwhile, it shows that the pandemic did not hinder the students' love and passion for the arts, and this promising power is exactly the contributing reason for the Exhibition's success.

Finally, I do wish that Hong Kong can return to normal soon, with the beautiful fireworks sparking and brightening in the sky again.
