Recently announced by the Research Grants Council (RGC), CityUHK secured 214 grants with funding amounting to HK$158.7M under the 2026-2027 General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS). Among them, 35 projects are from the College of Science (CSCI), with a total funding amount of close to HK$28 million. This substantial funding highlights the College's strong research capabilities and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
In particular, three CSCI faculty members have each received grants of more than a million dollars. They are Professor Chun-kit Kwok from the Department of Chemistry, Professor Heng Lian from the Department of Mathematics and Professor Haowei Xu from the Department of Physics.
In terms of the number of GRF grants and the amount of funding, CityUHK ranked No.1 in Chemical Engineering. Regarding GRF grants, CityUHK’s success rate in Chemical Engineering ranks among the top three.
For ECS grants, CityUHK is at the top of the Chemical Engineering Panel among all institutions. CityUHK is ranked 2nd among all institutions in both the number of awards received and the total funding secured, and among the top three in Physical Sciences and Mathematics.
