Distinguished Scholar Lecture
Professor Liu Zaifu, renowned Chinese poet and literary critic, will hold a dialogue with Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of the Chinese Civilisation Centre (CCIV), at the Forum on Chinese Literature and Universal Values on 22 April. This is part of the CityU 25th Anniversary Distinguished Scholar Lecture series jointly organised by CityU's Cultural and Sports Committee, CCIV and Students Development Services.

 

Construction scholarship
The Department of Building and Construction at CityU has received a $1.6m donation from Construction Industry Institute Hong Kong (CII-HK) to set up a scholarship aimed at promoting research in construction and improving performance of the local construction industry through research in relevant areas. A cheque presentation ceremony will be held on 22 April. Guests from CII-HK attending the ceremony will include Sir David Akers-Jones, Chairman, Dr Nicolas Yeung, Convenor and Founding Director, and Ir Raymond Cheung, Chairman of the Executive Board. On CityU side, Professor Chan Chi-hou, Acting Provost, Professor Edwin Pun Yue-bun, Acting Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, and Professor Sritawat Kitipornchai, Head of the Department of Building and Construction, will attend.

 

Jockey Club Scholarship
Three outstanding local and mainland students have been awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship this year. They are Louie Chan Ka-hang, Year 2 student from the School of Law, Li Sum-yuet, Year 1 student from the School of Creative Media, and Claire Qiu Xuwei, Year 1 student enrolled in the BEng(Hons) e-Logistics and Technology Management programme jointly offered by the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management and the Department of Computer Science.

 

City Literary Festival
Annual City Literary Festival is going to be held on this coming Friday and Saturday (23 and 24 April), with the Opening Ceremony and talks scheduled for Friday. Key speakers will be renowned writers Mr Bei Dao, Mr Li Rui, Mr Perry Lam, Professor Xu Zidong, Mr Chang Ta-chuen, Mr Lu Hao, Mr Yang Zhao, Mr Yang Ze, Professor Liu Zaifu, Mr Liu Ke-shiang, Professor Cheng Chou-yu and Ms Chi Zhijian. They will also hold parallel discussion sessions on different literary genres in the afternoon.

On 24 April, these renowned writers will team up with local young authors Mr Lui Wing-kai and Mr Lo King-chi in hosting a sharing session at CityU. Basketball double champion
Both CityU men's and women's basketball teams were crowned champions in the inter-collegiate competition organised by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China.
