Senior appointments 
The University has appointed the following administrative positions with effective on 2 October:

  • Mr Gabriel Chan Sai-man has been appointed Chief Administration Officer (CAO), overseeing the Human Resources Office, the Facilities Management Office and the yet to be developed Research Foundation.
  • Dr Ellen Ko Law Yin-lan has taken up the position of Special Advisor to the President, to provide assistance and advice on special projects and new initiatives.
  • Mr Simon Tang Siu-kee has been appointed Director of Finance and takes charge of the University's financial services, budget and planning responsibilities.
  • Ms Helen Leung Lai-wa has been appointed Director of Human Resources.
  • Dr Andy Chun Hon-wai has taken up the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO), overseeing the Computing Services Centre and the Enterprise Solutions Office.

In addition, Professor Johnny Chan Chung-leung, Chair Professor of Applied Physics, has been appointed Dean of the School of Energy and Environment. He has been serving as Acting Dean of School of Energy and Environment since July 2009.

 

Twenty-five years of recollections  
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of CityU, an exhibition is being staged that recalls landmark University moments and achievements from the past 25 years. On display are photos capturing historic moments, the achievements of our faculty and students and the University’s connection with the community. The exhibition will run until 12 October at the Covered Terrace near the Amenities Building. 

 

Information Day 
Information Day 2009, an annual event offering an excellent opportunity for prospective students and the general public to learn more about the study opportunities and campus life at CityU, will take place on 17 October. An extensive array of briefing sessions on different programmes, exhibitions, campus tours and video shows for visitors will be available.

 

Linguistics lecture 
As part of the Distinguished Scholars in Linguistics Lecture Series organised by the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics, Professor Jacob Mey of the University of Southern Denmark will deliver his lecture “Pragmemes and Reference” on 14 October.

 

French scholarship 
Miss Lau Hau-ling, a CityU Bachelor in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management graduate, became one of six recipients of the Alexandre Yersin Excellence Scholarship, offered by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, fending off keen competition from candidates in Hong Kong and Macau. She is pursuing further studies in computer science engineering at Ecole Polytechnique Féminine (EPF) in France in early September.
