President’s Lecture Series: Excellence in Academia

Endothelial cells lining the blood vessel’s lumen are the key regulators of vascular homeostasis. They serve as active signal transducers for blood flow and circulating bioactive molecules. In this talk, “Health of Vascular Endothelial Cells is too Important to Ignore,” Professor Huang Yu, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Jeanie Hu Professor of Biomedical Sciences, will discuss novel mechanisms that cause endothelial cell dysfunction with reference to cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, abnormal lipids and obesity. The talk is on 2 November.

Professor Zeng Xiaocheng, Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Chair Professor of Materials Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, will share stories on major scientific discoveries during his research career at a talk on 1 December. These stories include the serendipitous discovery of the first metal (gold) cage molecule in nature and the incidental discovery of the first 2D ice in nature. He is an elected Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and joined CityU in July 2022.
