Special Efforts Devoted to Supporting Graduating Students

CityU is dedicated to nurturing students to develop their career planning and providing suitable training and support for different years of study. In the face of the recent economy disrupted by the pandemic, Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, set aside an additional HK$10 million of University funding to enhance the career support for graduating students. With the guidance of Professor Horace Ip, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Career and Leadership Centre (CLC) works with different academic units and departments to pull together ample resources to provide a wide range of career services for graduating students and maximise their job landing opportunities.

Working alongside academic units and departments, CityU has spearheaded a new job-matching initiative, CityU CAReer Launch Scheme (CARLS), to solicit the support of collaborating partners from different industries and sectors for work exposure opportunities. For successful job matching, one-third of graduates’ monthly salary capped at HK$6,000 per month will be subsidised for a maximum of three months. The scheme has contacted over 2,700 employers since June 2020, and many companies and organisations have signed up for participation.

During the Career Month held from 25 May to 19 June 2020 virtually, over 1,500 students took part in more than 60 training sessions, including special seminars on facing adversity, career preparation workshops, seminars on job search skills and recruitment talks with support from employers. “One Final-year Student, One Employability Consultant” Scheme is offered to all graduating students of the Class of 2020. Students can join one-on-one career coaching sessions for personalised career advice from the experienced Career and Employability Consultants at CLC. This service will be extended until 31 August 2021 for CityU 2020 graduates.
