The course introduces core research methodologies found in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, covering both empirical and constructive (artifact-based) research approaches. It provides students with initial engagement with fundamental principles, methodologies, and philosophies of HCI research, as outlined in a core textbook on HCI research methods - particularly those shaped by new technologies and evolving research practices. In parallel, the course guides students through the process of conducting their first HCI project, from problem formulation and study design to execution and reporting. Students will develop technical literacy, critical discourse, and creative research capacities by applying the textbook's methodological roadmap to their own project work, preparing them to design, execute, and evaluate rigorous HCI studies at a high scholarly standard.
