The human resources market has undergone dramatic changes in recent years. More and more companies are adopting skill-based recruitment approaches, shifting away from a sole focus on work experience. Jaz, a graduate of the CityUHK with a major in Business Quantitative Analysis, started her career in the logistics and sales industries before joining LinkedIn, a globally renowned professional networking platform. She now helps companies achieve efficient global recruitment and talent management, witnessing the evolution of talent development and assisting enterprises in achieving healthy transformation through strategic talent management.
Finding ideal jobs, recruiting talent, or expanding professional networks through LinkedIn has become a prevailing trend among the new generation. As the Head of Account management of LinkedIn Talent Solutions at Hong Kong Region, Jaz believes that the platform also functions as a big data company. LinkedIn collaborates with governments and various organizations across multiple countries and regions, leveraging years of collected data for workforce planning and analyzing new trends in the human resources market.
Reflecting on her career journey, Jaz mentioned experiencing several twists and turns, especially when she graduated in 2003 during the SARS outbreak, which led to the suspension of many corporate management trainee (MT) programs. However, her background in Business Quantitative Analysis at CityUHK equipped her with expertise in data analysis and resource planning, paving the way for her career development. "At that time, the SAR government focused on promoting four key economic pillars to drive recovery, covering finance, tourism, logistics, and professional services. This kept me in a positive mindset during my job search. Despite facing numerous challenges, I firmly believed that hard work would eventually lead to hope. I successfully secured an MT position at a logistics company before graduation, taking the first step in my career."
Later transitioning to the sales industry, Jaz learned to understand customer needs, help them solve problems, and build long-term collaborative relationships rather than merely promoting products. This experience significantly enhanced her professional capabilities and communication skills.
As she gained deeper insights into the industry, Jaz realized that a single skill set was no longer sufficient to meet the demands of the rapidly changing job market. This motivated her to actively seek new opportunities, ultimately leading her to become part of LinkedIn. "My experience at LinkedIn has been incredibly enriching. Not only has it helped me expand client relationships, but it has also broadened my horizons through interactions with international talent. It has made me realize the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement."
"I deeply resonate with the unique culture and mission of this platform. LinkedIn consistently encourages us to learn and innovate, which aligns perfectly with my values," she added. She expressed particular joy in the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of the entire human resources market, noting that her mission extends beyond helping companies recruit top talent to building bridges between enterprises and professionals.
"LinkedIn is like a microcosm of society. It allows us to understand job opportunities in the employment market, the positions companies are hiring for, and the new skills recent graduates possess," she explained. In recent years, she has observed a significant increase in AI literacy. Currently, many LinkedIn users have updated their profiles with numerous AI-related skills. For example, in Hong Kong, the growth rate of AI literacy skills over the past year has been approximately 180%, reflecting widespread efforts to learn and showcase new skills on the platform.
In response to the development of AI and automation technologies, Jaz happily noted that many people have realized the critical importance of skill renewal. Recent research suggests that 75% of job skills are expected to change in the future, meaning that current professional knowledge may become obsolete. "Working at LinkedIn has allowed me to observe future business trends. I have gained invaluable insights, whether in terms of enhancing my own skills or understanding industry trends."
Jaz consistently values engaging with the younger generation. She frequently participates in university career development seminars, sharing her experiences and insights with students. She encourages them to actively explore their personal interests and the market demand behind them, emphasizing that life is a continuous learning journey. Only by staying curious and embracing change can they find their own path.
