Aims of Major

The Major in Accountancy aims to provide an active learning environment in which students can develop knowledge of accounting and inter-related business disciplines and enrich the broader skills and values essential for members and leaders of the accountancy profession in Hong Kong and the Greater China region. 

The Professional Accounting stream is designed to equip students with technical knowledge and professional skills for the profession.

The ESG and Tech stream is designed to equip students with digital technology, risk management and governance issues, in addition to the fundamental accounting knowledge.

 

 


Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs)

  1. Demonstrate key knowledge and skills in business related disciplines.
  2. Communicate effectively in English and Chinese.
  3. Apply creative and critical thinking in solving business-related problems.
  4. Attain personal and team goals using individual and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrate awareness of ethical and global issues in business.
  6. Apply accounting principles and practices to business situations in the context of ethical and regulatory framework. 
  7. Formulate professional solutions to contemporary accounting and business issues.
  8. Demonstrate key knowledge and skills in corporate governance and emerging technologies in accounting profession.

Professional Recognition

This major is accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Chartered Association of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the CPA Australia. Graduates can gain full or partial exemption from the professional examinations depending on the accredited courses taken.

To nurture BBA Accountancy students as professional and ethical leaders for business challenges, students are strongly encouraged to actively attend a “Strategic Leadership Development Series”, arranged for BBA Accountancy students to gain exposure to a variety of skills trainings, seminars, workshops, and professional development opportunities, and to interact with potential employers and other practitioners.
