It’s freezing cold outside. Many of you must huddle up in your warm room with thick clothes on. To protect you from the cold, your body’s metabolic rate increases in winter, generating more heat. But without enough food supplements, especially the ones containing abundant sugar, fat and protein, you will feel cold and get sick more easily. Therefore, how to eat adequately as well as properly is essential when fighting against the cold.

Cold-fighting Dessert: Sweet Potato Soup with Milk

Ingredients: a sweet potato, a piece of ginger, a bottle of milk, crystal sugar

  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into chunks, then soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Peel the ginger.
  3. Put the potato, the ginger and some sugar into a bowl, then boil them until the potato chunks become soft. (around 20 minutes)
  4. Add the milk into the potato soup.

Sweet potato is a kind of low-fat and low-calories vegetable with abundant dietary fiber and vitamins. It also protects your stomach and protects you from cancer. Ginger is efficient in curing cold and stomach-ache generated by cold weather.Milk contains enough protein and vitamins to meet your daily needs.

Throat-smoothing Dessert: Stewed Sweet Pear with White Fungus

Winter is dry, making the throat get inflamed easily, so we need throat-smoothing dessert.

Ingredients: two pears, white fungus 15g, crystal sugar 70g, lycium barbarum 10g

  1. Soak the white fungus in 40C water for 20 minutes.
  2. Put the white fungus in a bowl or stainless steel pot together with 1.5L water. Boil them with high heat for 20 minutes.
  3. Cut the pears into chunks and then boil them in the bowl or pot for 30 minutes.
  4. Add the lyceum barbarum and crystal sugar into the bowl or pot and boil them for another 10-15 minutes.
