Professor Jung-Eun Chu Moderates Key Events at BACO-2025 in Busan
Assistant Professor Jung-Eun Chu from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) recently served as moderator for two major events at the BACO-2025 international conference held in Busan, South Korea. BACO-2025, short for the Busan IAMAS–IACS–IAPSO Joint Assembly 2025, brought together three leading associations under the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), which focus on atmospheric sciences (IAMAS), cryospheric sciences (IACS), and ocean sciences (IAPSO). Joint assemblies of this scale are rare, making BACO-2025 a unique platform for interdisciplinary collaboration across climate-related fields.

Prof. Chu moderated the Earth Film Festival, held in collaboration with the Only One Earth Film Festival. The event featured The Here Now Project, a compelling climate change documentary that uses a user-generated video approach to explore extreme weather and environmental urgency. Following the screening, Prof. Chu led a talk show with climate activist and media personality Julian Quintart, engaging in a lively discussion on climate action and public engagement. More details about the festival can be found here: https://baco-25.org/new/sub2/sub292.asp .
Prof. Chu also served as moderator for the Opening Ceremony and Reception of BACO-2025. The event featured a plenary address by Dr. Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and President of the Carbon Free Alliance, who spoke on the theme “Climate Action for All.” The ceremony also included traditional Korean art performances, celebrating both scientific excellence and cultural heritage. More information about the plenary session is available here: https://baco-25.org/new/sub2/sub23.asp .
Prof. Chu’s active involvement at BACO-2025 reflects SEE’s expanding role in global climate conversations and its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. It highlights the School’s dedication to fostering public engagement and promoting environmental awareness.
