Prof. LEI Dangyuan Earns Prestigious Falling Walls Finalist Spot and HKAE Membership

We are pleased to share two outstanding achievements of Professor LEI Dangyuan, which reflect great distinction on the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).

2026 Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs Finalist

Professor Lei has been selected as one of the 10 finalists globally for the prestigious 2026 Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs in Engineering and Technology. Professor Lei is CityUHK’s first-ever finalist since the establishment of this award in 2009. He joins an elite cohort of world-class innovators from top-tier institutions, with the other nine finalists from MIT, Stanford, UCLA, University of Edinburgh, PKU, HKU, NTU, University of Michigan and University of Washington.

HK Elected Member of the HKAE Young Member Section

Adding to his international recognition, Professor Lei has also been elected as a member of the Young Member Section of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE). The HKAE plays a vital role in advancing the engineering profession in the region, and Professor Lei is one of only three newly elected members from CityUHK this year, affirming the university's strong leadership in local engineering and technology development.
