The 21st century is an era of internet, information and data. This course explores its implication and opportunity for development of smart city and industry. We investigate this from a systems engineering perspective emphasizing data analytics, visualisation, and informed decision making. Students will learn about how these data analytics skills are influencing and shaping urban development, modern industrial and enterprise management. Students will learn how smart city and industry are being embraced and applied within Hong Kong.

Students’ learning is based on case studies discussed throughout the course. Cases will illustrate smart solutions such as data driven reliability and maintenance, smart control of energy systems, and smart transportation solutions. Furthermore, student’s learning is enriched by company visits and guest lectures.
