[icon] I have to prepare a booklet which has more than 10 articles. Some of these articles are written in British English while others are written in American English. How can I spell check on such a mixed document correctly and easily?

[icon] Firstly, there is no function to convert all sub-documents into British English or American English. Therefore, in the spell check process, we need to tell our wordprocessor which part has to be checked with the UK dictionary and which part with the US dictionary. The following steps show how this can be done in WordPerfect for Windows or Word for Windows:

  1. Select each sub-document as a single block one at a time.
  2. Select Tool|Languages from the Menu Bar and choose either UK or US English.
  3. Perform step a) and b) for each sub-document individually.
  4. Start Spell Check.

[icon] Very often, my documents are just one or two lines off one page. Is there an easy way to compress these documents to one page in size?

[icon] You can try the new feature in WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows called Make It Fit Expert. This function does the compression for you and allows you to limit what can and cannot be adjusted in the compression process. Some good examples are Top and Bottom Margin, Line Spacing and Font Size. To use the Make It Fit Expert, you can apply the following steps:

  1. Select Format|Make It Fit Expert from the Menu Bar.
  2. Note the total number of pages of the current document. Specify the desired number of pages for the document.
  3. Specify the items that can be adjusted to fit the content to the page and click <Make It Fit>.

[icon] I always like to add good looking clipart or pictures to my documents. However, occasionally only half of a document is printed out to the printer with the other half missing. Is there something wrong with my printer or is it Word for Windows that has caused the problem?

[icon] This may be due to improper Printer Setup in your Windows environment. You may want to try the following steps:

  1. Go to Control Panel and double-click Printers.
  2. Click <Setup>.
  3. Change from 600 dpi to 300 dpi in the Printer Resolution group.
  4. If there is no improvement, change the Printer Memory in the Printer Memory Box from off to A4 (or the paper size you have chosen).
