DOS upgrades from version 5.0 to 6.21

 

A memo has been sent to various departments to remind those who have purchased DOS 6.21 may arrange with CC for an upgrade on their respective departmental LAN. An upgrade has already been done on various student LANs and a new boot diskette, termed as the Student LAN General Boot Disk 6.2, is now available and a copy of which can be made from the Departmental Standard Software Library Menu, the CC Student LAN menu and all the Express Terminals.

The Student LAN General Boot Disk 6.2 contains the following functions:

• It allows access to the Departmental Satellite LAN supporting MS DOS 6.21, from any PC workstation located in your office, in the Departmental Satellite terminal room or Regional room (only apply to those departments with satellite terminal room or regional room and have upgraded the DOS version).

• It allows access to the CC Student LAN from any PC workstation located in your office, at the Computer Centre terminal areas or seminar rooms.

• Terminal Access:
  • Enable the access of VAX minicomputer
    
  • Enable the access of SUN Unix system
    
  • File Transfer between PC and host systems
    
  • Express Terminal Services - account enquiry, terminal booking, LabInfo, PolyLink, PolyData, Library catalogues, Newsgroup etc.

• Uses expanded memory for the network driver.
