France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lecture Series

Professor Françoise Combes, Professor at the Collège de France and Member of the Academia Europaea and the National Academy of Sciences, USA, will conduct a lecture titled “Black holes and active galaxy nuclei” for the France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lecture Series on 8 May. Professor Chen Jie, Chair Professor of Electronic Engineering, has been selected as a 2024 SIAM Fellow for his breakthroughs in fundamental limitations of feedback control, system identification, model validation and delay systems. SIAM Fellows are selected by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in recognition of their outstanding research and service to the community.

Professor Zhang Lin, of the School of Energy and Environment and the Department of Public and International Affairs, has been selected as one of 18 global leaders to participate in the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars (SUSIs) programme. Professor Zhang will engage in enlightening discussions in the United States on crucial topics, such as climate change, entrepreneurship, economic theories and corporate regulations.

Onggowarsito Raymonk Surya, Chan Ka-shing and Zhang Fanglu, students of the Department of Electrical Engineering, teamed up to win third prize in the computing track in the 8th Huawei ICT Competition Asia Pacific 2023-2024. The winning team, Tech Savvy, is supervised by Dr Du Yuefeng, Postdoc of the Department of Computer Science. The team will represent the region at the Global Final of the Huawei ICT Competition in Shenzhen in May 2024.
