College of Computing - Distinguished Seminar by Prof. R. John HANSMAN: Analysis of Operational Data to Improve the Safety, Efficiency and Sustainability of Air Transportation

The College of Computing (CC) successfully hosted the 4th CC Distinguished Seminar on 24 March 2025. The seminar was delivered by Prof. R. John HANSMAN, the T. Wilson Professor of Aeronautics & Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), on the topic: “Analysis of Operational Data to Improve the Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability of Air Transportation.” The seminar drew a large audience of students and faculty eager to explore data analytics in air transportation.

Prof. HANSMAN presented a comprehensive overview of analytical approaches used in recent projects, showcasing how data analytics evaluate flight operational data. He discussed various initiatives aimed at identifying and mitigating safety risks, as well as uncovering opportunities to enhance the safety and efficiency of flight operations. These insights offered valuable perspectives to both students and faculty.
