Course Aims

This is the final programme for Year 3 students of the Cinematic Arts in which they will learn and practice the art of directing and be trained as director for the local film and television industries and various creative media. As students have by now learned the art of screenwriting and editing, by acquiring the knowledge and practical experience of directing in this course, they will be well prepared for taking up the creative role of a director (or ‘auteur’) in their personal film/video explorations or future projects of a commercial nature. Our primary concern here is to ensure students to have a firm grasp of film language as it is of vital importance for a director, whose artistic expression and communicative power can only be achieved through a precise and meaningful treatment of sounds and images. The course will also deal with the directing of actors as the creative collaboration between director and actor is one of the key elements determining the success or failure of a narrative cinematic work.
