This course provides students with knowledge of the origin, historical development and major characteristics of classical Chinese fiction and “xiqu戲曲” (traditional Chinese drama), through an in-depth study of notable writers and selected masterpieces in relation to history and culture both theoretically and practically. Students are also encouraged to discover and analyse the aesthetic, social, historical and intellectual perspectives of classical Chinese fiction and “xiqu”. This is also expected to foster their enjoyment of classical Chinese fiction and “xiqu”.
