Aims of Major

This major aims to:

  1. Provide a solid economic training based on discovery-based teaching and learning that strikes a balance between theory and practice to support business decision making within, but not limited to, the economic and social environment in the Asia-Pacific region;
  2. Equip students with a set of transferable skills that include analytical, numerical, information technology, presentation, adaptation, and inter-personal skills through discovery-based teaching and learning; and
  3. Enable students to pursue a wide range of career paths in commerce, governments, educational and multinational organizations, as well as advanced studies and research.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs)

Upon successful completion of this major, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate key knowledge and skills in business-related disciplines;
  2. Communicate effectively in English and Chinese;
  3. Apply creative and critical thinking in solving business-related problems;
  4. Attain personal and team goals using individual and interpersonal skills;
  5. Demonstrate awareness of ethical and global issues in business;
  6. Apply economic reasoning to analyse and critically evaluate business situations, and solve business problems using suitable models and innovative methods wherever applicable;
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of local business environments, and the ability to evaluate the effects of world events and government policies on regional economies;
  8. Effectively analyze economic data incorporating the discovery-based approach to produce reports that support business decision-making.
