Course Aims

Youth have played critical roles in Asia’s politics. Although there has been growing interest in the role of youth in politics, political transformations in particular, Asian youth have received little attention in the classroom. Recent political change that many Arab countries have gone through as well as such popular movements as the “Occupy Wall Street” movement urge students of Asian politics to examine and grasp the critical roles that Asian youth play in instigating or otherwise shaping major processes of political and social change in the region. Students will deepen their understanding of the subject matter by engaging in simulation exercises and researching into a variety of case studies of youth and politics.
