About the Talk

In Hong Kong, franchised buses face a lot of challenges like sub-tropical climate, hilly terrain, long service hours and high frequency of service. While battery electric buses may tackle these problems like what diesel buses are doing, there arise some new issues like insufficient mileage to support one day’s service, long battery charging time, reduced carrying capacity and limited battery life. On the other hand, hydrogen fuel cell buses theoretically may overcome all these problems and the technology is still developing. If green hydrogen is used, it will be absolutely zero emission, not only roadside.
However, the path ahead is not so straight forward.
