| Abstract: | Photodynamic therapy (PDT) represents a highly promising therapeutic modality, distinguished by its precise spatiotemporal controllability, negligible systemic side effects, noninvasive nature, and low propensity for inducing drug resistance. This approach operates through laser mediated activation of photosensitizers (PSs), leading to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which in turn induce damage and death in cancer cells or bacteria. This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the development history, therapeutic mechanism, advantages and limitations of PDT. Focusing on the development of PSs, this presentation highlights their design strategies, property investigations, in vitro and in vivo applications, as well as preclinical studies of PSs based on hypocrellin derivatives. |
