Full house at movie screening: promoting diversity and inclusivity
On 2 April 2025, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Network for the Promotion of Inclusive Society (HKNPIS), hosted two sessions of movie appreciation event featuring Fearless, a microfilm funded by the Equal Opportunities Commission’s Community Participation Funding Programme on Equal Opportunities and directed by the acclaimed Mr Au Cheuk Man. The event attracted a diverse crowd of over 150 participants, uniting CityUHK students, staff, and faculty members with participants from various organizations, including the New Home Association, Auxiliary Medical Service of Hong Kong, Five Districts Business Welfare Association School, Rare Diseases Hong Kong, Society of Boys’ Centres Chak Yan Centre School, and principals from local schools, etc. The turnout reflected a shared commitment to fostering understanding and inclusion across communities.
The event started with warm welcome remarks from Professor Chan Chi Hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) at CityUHK. “I hope everyone can feel the meaning and strength of social inclusion through this film today, inspiring us to pay more attention and promote mutual understanding and acceptance among different groups in our daily lives,” he said.
Following the screening, Director Au Cheuk Man and Mr Kok Kim Wing, Chief Executive of HKNPIS, took the stage to share insights into the film’s creation and its powerful message. Participants enthusiastically raised thoughtful questions, sparking lively discussions.
It was a meaningful afternoon that not only showcased a touching film but also reinforced the importance of empathy, connection, and collective action in building a more inclusive Hong Kong.
